two of my faves came together and it was magical

Two of my favorite song writers and singers came together to make an awesome album. I loved it all, but especially this song.

21 week update

If you missed my 20 week update, find it here.

How Far Along: 21 weeks

Gender: Waiting to find out

Baby Size: Carrot

Total Weight Gain:  12 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Jeans and one shirt. I'm trying to wear my dresses before it gets too cold.

Sleep: Still getting up 1-2 times a night to pee. Tried this pillow, but I don't think my bump is big enough for it yet.

Miss Anything: Not having to pee every hour.

Cravings: I had my first craving this week! I really wanted cowboy caviar (a dip with black beans, corn, and Rotel).

Symptoms: I still have an aversion to meat and certain veggies. I projectile vomitted (is that a work?) carrots this week. :-(

Belly Button/Body Changes: Growing bump. Posted my first Instagram photo where it's obvious I'm pregnant.

Mood: Feeling anxious about finances.

Exercise: Walking Maebe. Trying to take a break from the computer at work by walking around the parking lot.

Looking Forward to: Relaxing this weekend!

stop trying to fix your friends

I read an article recently that really spoke to me. In "Stop Trying to Fix Your Friends" Ashley Abramson talks about how her strengths of Woo and Empathy (which are in my top five strengths according the Strength Finders), often find her meddling too much in her friends' lives.

I feel like I have a tendency to do the same things, especially the part about wanting to intertwine my friends groups. Sometimes it works out great, like when I set up two couples who are now married. But I probably need to be cautious of it in general.

Here is a highlight that stuck out to me:
I wanted more overlap, more easy access points and a clever way to find a place into others’ lives without the work.
What I packaged as my signature strengths of “woo” and “empathy” twisted into my signature weakness. My desperate need for instantly gratifying, mutually understanding friendships began to raid other people’s lives.
As we get older, community gets harder. Friendships came easy in college, when nearly every thread of our lives were woven together by place and life phase. But as we step into the rest of life, the Venn Diagrams of our lives intersect less and less.

photos from our labor day vacation

We had a great time in upstate New York staying at my grandmother's lake house. We took the little motorized row boat and kayak out, played KanJam, roasted marshmallows by a campfire, saw the farms my grandparents grew up on, saw relatives, visited one of the Finger Lakes, played a little Telestrations, and the boys did a lot of fishing! Here are some photos of the trip:

my trip to syracuse

This weekend I am in Syracuse, NY with my siblings. We are staying at my grandmother's lake house for a few days. We did this trip two years ago and had such a relaxing trip. This might be the last summer before my grandmother sells her little cottage that she bought for $15,000 (!) in the 60s. Song Lake is nostalgic for me and my family because we used to spend our Fourth of Julys up there every year, with all our relatives.

What are you up to this Labor Day weekend?
