wedding program

I want to give a shout out to my wedding graphic designer Cam Addison who did my invitations and programs. I loved the vintage, southern theme and sent her some examples of ones I thought were neat. I didn't want the programs to be the boring traditional kind, but something really fun and attracting to the eye. She was very fast and fairly priced. You can check out her site here. Thanks Cam!

this is my heaven

On this absolutely dreary day in Marietta, I am pretending to be here (Santorini, Greece). I believe this is what my heaven will look like:

made me think

A friend of mine sent me an article today called Tiny Love Stores To Make You Smile. I went through all of them and found my favorites. So sweet! If you want to read all of them, you can here. The MMT stands for "Made Me Think."

Today, I walked my daughter down the aisle. Ten years ago I pulled a 14 year old boy out of his mom’s fire-engulfed SUV after a serious accident. Doctors initially said he would never walk again. My daughter came with me several times to visit him at the hospital. Then she started going on her own. Today, seeing him defy the odds and smile widely, standing on his own two feet at the altar as he placed a ring on my daughter’s finger MMT.

Today, I operated on a little girl. She needed O- blood. We didn’t have any, but her twin brother has O- blood. I explained to him that it was a matter of life and death. He sat quietly for a moment, and then said goodbye to his parents. I didn’t think anything of it until after we took his blood and he asked, “So when will I die?” He thought he was giving his life for hers. Thankfully, they’ll both be fine. MMT

Today, after I heard that my mom stayed home from work with the flu, I stopped by Wal-Mart on my way home from school to pick her up some canned soup. I ran into my dad who was already in the check-out line. He had 5 cans of soup, NyQuil, tissues, tampons, 4 romantic comedy DVDs and a bouquet of flowers. My dad makes me smile and MMT.

Today, I met the prettiest woman on a plane. Assuming I wouldn’t see her again after we made our connections, I told her how pretty I thought she was. She gave me the most sincere smile and said, “Nobody has said that to me in 10 years.” It turns out we’re both in our mid-30’s, never married, no kids, and we live about 5 miles away from each other. We have a date set for next Saturday after we return home. MMT

Today, I found an old hand written note my mom wrote when she was a senior in high school. On it is a list of qualities she hoped she would someday find in a boyfriend. The list is basically an exact description of my dad, who she didn’t meet until she was 27. MMT

Today, I was driving home with my grandfather when he suddenly made a u-turn and said, “I forgot to get your grandmother a bouquet of flowers. I’ll pick up one from the florist at the corner down here. It’ll only take a second.” “What’s so special about today that you have to buy her flowers?” I asked. “There’s nothing specifically special about today,” my grandfather said. “Every day is special. Your grandmother loves flowers. They put a smile on her face.” MMT

sex before marriage

Yesterday a co-worker and I were talking about the F word and our dislike for it. I said I don't like when people use it synonymously with "having sex." I went on to say it's such a bad word for something so good. I then said, "I mean good, when it's within marriage."

That was followed by an "Oh, Rachael, Rachael, Rachael" in a tone that could only mean "you are so naive."

No, this wasn't the first time I have been called naive. But what gets me is that if you look at the definition of naive, it means:

1. having or showing unaffected simplicity of nature or absence of artificiality; unsophisticated; ingenuous.
2. having or showing a lack of experience, judgment, or information; credulous.
To me, being naive is to think that most people wait until they are married to have sex. I realize that most people don't; therefore I am not naive about it.  However, me saying that sex is a better thing within marriage than outside of marriage is not being naive. It is simply stating scripture:

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral ~ Hebrew 13:4
I am not trying to judge those that have sex before they are married, I am just stating that it bothers me when people think that just because I believe what I do, that I am being naive.

That is all.

greater respect for working and stay-at-home moms

Since we got married, I have been trying hard to establish a routine in some of the "wifey, domestic" tasks that I have now been given. I had to say that is is very hard!

I don't even have kids, or a dog (which are so close to kids anyway) and I have a hard time trying to fit everything in a day. I want to cook more to save our family money, and hopfeully eat better, and want to work out to stay in shape, clean the house so my mind isn't cluttered, and also hang out with/help out my parents. And there's the little thing called a social life (Bachelor/Pretty Little Liar viewing parties, drinks out with the girls, church small group). If I have to go to the grocery store to get something for the meal I'm cooking that night, you might as well forget about it. I absolutely hate the grocery store because I can never find anything and there are people everywhere! You can't even stop for five seconds to check your list for the next item when you get the awkward "um, excuse me ma'am?" Ugh, just go around me!" I come home all stressed out and grumpy and def. not in the mood to cook. All I want to do is relax and not be walking around a store like a mouse in an elementary school science fair looking for the cheese at the end of the maze. You know the cool kids who did that, and had the multi-colored tubes and were always the hit of the class.

I usually leave work at 5, which is early for a 40 hour a week job. I can't imagine if I worked until 6 or later, like so many women do. I really wouldn't the have time for this stuff.

So basically, I have a greater respect for women who are doing all of these things AND who have kids. Kudos to you all.

How do you handle all of this? Is there a way to stay organized that works in your family? Is it just a day by day struggle?

I hope everyone is having a great week!

music monday-11.21 British cuties

I know this is old "YouTube" news by now, but I love Sophia Grace (8) and Rosie (5)! The little British girls who sing Nicki Manaj are so cute, and I can just eat them up with their accents! I love this interview on Ellen, and then their performance of Super Bass. They have such attitudes!
